Crew
For the past two days I've been working as crew member at Stage 3 area of the two day Peranakan Festival held at Singapore Management University SMU. It's a temporary job offered by my friend, Melvin who is part of the Organising Committee there.
The people I worked with are friendly which is very important in making my first work experience an enjoyable one. I find it very cool to have the "Crew" tag hung around my neck as I run around the campus in a white polo tee and jeans. It's the exclusive feeling.
A little about my workplace. Stage 3 is actually located just in front of the Subway in the School of Economics (SOE) and School of Social Sciences (SOSS). It is actually placed in a not very strategic location as it is very far away from the main stage, Stage 1 where all the happenings are. What is happening at Stage 3 is a series of live Peranakan food demonstrations by great Chefs. The ironic thing about Stage 3 is that itself isn't a stage as there are no evaluated platforms but rather it is just like some
Day 1
Being a newbie to the whole event, I arrived on time at 9pm at the School of Economics. I thought I saw a acquittance of mine there and I actually did. To my surprise, he is also involved in the same event as I do.
I admit I was very blur that day, as I was unfamiliar with the whole programme. Even though I asked many questions, I still remained quite unclear of the whole situation and of what is actually happening. I just follow whatever I am ordered to do and try my best to complete the task well. After I had set up the stage, my job is left to handling out brochures informing them about this Babazzar, inviting people to sit down to watch the food demonstrations and maintain the order of the "stage" in terms of the arrangement of items. Other than that, I'm just Melvin's runner. However, Melvin seems to be very busy that day as he is running up and down, through and forth with his phone ringing half of the time. Indeed he is doing more work than I am and I felt really bad about it. Later in the day, I had many visitors coming to ask me about where is the event being held. "Is what is happening her (Stage 3) the only event? I heard there are over a 100 stores and how come I can't see them? Where exactly is the whole event held; I did went the the basement area but all I see was bunches packed with students studying." Are the few common questions asked. Only a small handful are interested in what the chefs are cooking. As I've mentioned, Stage 1 is positioned at the basement area which the school termed the place as a concourse, which is quite a distance away from Stage 3. Those who came from the Dhoby Ghaut usually don't have the idea of where to go in SMU for the festival as there are no sign boards along the way to guide them along. I'm quite sure that for some lost sheep who didn't manage to find Stage 1, gave up and went back home. In a sense, Stage 3 is kind of like an information counter.
After the list of demonstrations ended by the chefs, its about 5.30pm. We (Melvin, student helpers from TP and me) packed up and cleared the stage, pushing the inventories back into the Gallery where we first took them out. John and Gabriel came to meet us at around 5.50pm when we are about done with the packing of the stuffs. After everything is being settled, we went for dinner at The Cathay Orchard and meet up with our friends before going to ei8ht cafe.
It is absolutely a tiring day for me.

Day 2
I thanked God in the morning that He didn't bless me with a hangover from drinking so much alcohol at ei8ht cafe yesterday. As usual, I reached SMU SOE at 9am with a stomachache. Since they are not there yet, I decide to clear my stomach first. After I've met up with Melvin, we went down to Stage 1 area to collect some stuffs before I was instructed to go back and set up Stage 3. When I reached back, Chef Calvin and Phillips had already arrived with the mobile kitchen being set up by them. I rushed into the Gallery to hid my bag under the table and trolley out all the things. Within 30-40 minutes I had finish the set up of the "stage" with some help from the chefs.
Hmm..Chef Phillip looks familiar to me though. I think I have seen him somewhere in the media before if I am not mistaken.
It rain on a lovely Sunday morning when our first demonstration by Chef Calvin started. It is obvious that Chef Calvin was nervous as he was stumbling through his words. However, the non-hala dish he made was really nice. I took a look at the programmes listed out for Stage 3 today and realised that there are only 2 main important people coming down for the demonstration today, one is Chef Phillip and the other is a Food Technologist Baker Samuel. Seems like to me, the last day is rather a relaxing one but for some reasons I don't know why, I'm feeling a little blue.
Food Technologist Baker Samuel demonstrated how to bake pineapple tarts which was really cool! He also taught the audiences quite a few technical facts about baking. After filming down the whole process of his first demonstration, my phone battery went flat.
Time zoomed passed and its almost knock off time. After Food Technologist Baker Samuel ended his second demonstration, we prepared for pack up. There were a few hiccups in between the packing up and the collection of my pay. I don't know why, no matter how refresh I try too be, I still cannot wipe off that blur look on my face. Anyways, I shan't disclose how much I earned here, all I can say that I shall put that amount to good use as to spend it for a occasion. Part of the earnings also goes to my mother.
I Ain't Drunk
The fact that I can still type my blog now just shows that I ain't drunk at all! I'm actually in a clear state of mind now. OK, I had to admit my head did feel a little heavy but that only affects my walking and not my thinking. To my friends who were with me, no worries ok?
The plan after my first day of work was to go down to ei8ht cafe with my group of friends to chill. It's been sometime since we last met each other as each was preoccupied with their own schedule. The outing kind of become like a get back together session.
There's two things I found out of Andrew (a suave waiter who works in ei8ht cafe with a dazzling smile) when I went over this time. First of all, he is indeed a very nice and magnanimous guy. His response to my "hypothetically realistic question" was out of the ordinary. However, the shock I got was that he's actually a smoker. A total turn off for me though as I dislike smokers.
p.s. Andrew is a friend of my friend.
I really want to go and work in that cafe but I doubt that they have any vacancy. Moreover, I did not dare to go up and talk to Bill aka the manager/boss. Hmm.. maybe I should ask him the next time round then.
The cafe was strangely quite on a Saturday night. We ordered some libre drink which is coke mixed with rum and something else. The drink was bland and tasted little of alcohol. Thus, Lyon and I decided to order another drink which is stronger; it has a mix of 3 alcohols namely, red wine, rum and brandy. The taste of the drink is nice and I drank a large portion of it. That is when I start to feel a little tipsy and I had a little difficulty in walking straight. Other than that, I'm actually perfectly fine.
I'm typing this post is because I had a quick shower just now and is waiting for my hair to dry before I can go and sleep.
Anyways, I think I shan't continue typing any longer, I still need to wake up early to go and work tomorrow. Good Nitez.

Ikea cum SiteX Outing
I went out today with Arthur and Daryl to Ikea and SiteX.
Nothing special happened though, its just a normal outing trip with my friends.
It's been quite sometime since I've last stepped into the main brunch of Ikea. I'm quite used to going the smaller brunch at the west side of Singapore that I felt a little outta place when I went there. There are like many little things I want to buy but due to limited budget, I had to restrict myself. In the end I brought only two rolls of Christmas wrappers and photo frames which comes in three per set. After paying, we went to the foodcourt inside to have our dinner. It's my first time going there to eat. It took quite sometime before we managed to find a seat as the place is really crowded. In the end Arthur and Daryl treated me dinner. I felt kinda bad so I'm deciding to treat Arthur back when we go to ei8ht cafe on Saturday.
Since we are in the east side, and SiteX is held in Expo instead of the usual Suntec, this year, we decided to go down and take a look. The trip ended when Arthur brought a HP printer back which I think is really cool for the design and the functions.
Hmm..if I'm not wrong, I think I saw Javen, a secondary school acquittance of mine, working at the Cannon booth.

!You are Irritating yet Hysterical!
Ok, this is something that I personally experienced yesterday on my way home from City Hall on the MRT. It's kinda irritating but yet funny at the same time.
The guy in the above photo was too engrossed scolding someone of the other end of the phone and he actually didn't realise that I took a photo of him! What's more, my action was really obvious!
He had been scolding the person ever since I sat beside him on the train, which is at City Hall. The irritating thing is that he's scolding the person rather loudly as even when my music is at a loud volume I still can hear him blah-ing away. Furthermore, he got coffee breath, which really stinks when he speaks!
Now, the thing that I find it funny is that the other party is willing to listen to his nagging. The line of his phone is being cut off a few times due to bad reception, BUT the person did call back again! If I were that person, I won't be so stupid to call back and hear him rumble all the way from City Hall MRT station to Chinese Garden MRT station! Furthermore, even when he alighted he was still scolding! Plus, he action 多过 badminton! There's like so many gestures that he made and the photo I snapped is just one of it though. It kinda like make him look like sissy.
When he left, I did chuckled a little.
Well, I feel that one shouldn't advertise his personal life in public so loud. Please be considerate when using the phone in public. Nobody wants to hear what you are talking. Let there be peace around the world for generations to come where Singaporeans be more conscious of their surroundings.

The Unofficial End
Today is the long awaited self-declared unofficial end of my 'A' Levels examinations. Many would wounder why do I call this an unofficial end. The reason being simple; after today, I'm only left with my Biology Paper 1 (MCQ) which befalls on 3rd Dec. I have no more examinations between 24th November to 2nd Dec. Thus, after today's examination I can go and relax and start enjoying myself already.
To speak the fact, I already lost my stamina for the exams. It is clearly visible in my attitude towards today's paper. During my Chemistry Paper 1 (MCQ), I don't even have the heart to be precise in my choice anymore, I just chose whatever answers that seems right to me though. I also totally have no more mood to do any last minute cramming. All I want now is a break, my J2 year isn't a really smooth one to begin with.
Oh well, I'm sure that I won't let my this short break be gone to waste. There are many things I've yet to plan and do. Furthermore, I need to settle them asap, before my last paper.
That's all for today, I shan't continue any longer. If not, I'm sure that people will have a hard time reading my post in a very small box.

Childish New Blog Skin

Goodbye Cotton

My precious and beloved hamster aka Cotton just passed away on 19th November 2009. He was found lying stiff and motionless at his usual sleeping place. However, at a closer look, he was infested with red ants. I had goosebumps even till now when I recall that sight I saw yesterday. The next thing I did was to take out the insecticide and sprayed on him. I know that is really cruel but its the only best way to stop the meat biting ants from disintegrating him further. All the horrible red ants died, there lies my pitiful Cotton with his eyes half opened and I could clearly see that his eyes are moist. It sure was a painful death for him. I wanted to cry but I shed no tear. I just sat in front of his cage, staring all my little post it that I've stick to the wall to remind me to clean up his cage, to ask my sisters to help feed him when I'm away, etc. Few minutes had passed and I finally stood up and phoned my sister informing her of Cotton's departure. After I hung up the phone, I went back to his cage and transfer his dead, ant infested body to a small container. I cleared up his cage and sterilized it with Dettol. Cotton means a lot to me and I'm not going to throw his dead body down the rubbish chute; I'm going to bury it!
For the rest of the day, I felt so traumatized by his departure that I've lost the mood to study for my incoming economics paper the next day. The sense of guilt overwhelm me. I was 'so busy' with my coming 'A' Levels that I had actually neglected him. There were signs of 2-3 little ants crawling around his cage weeks before but I thought that it was just normal household ants and didn't really took much notice in it. However, to my horror they turned out to be meat eating red ants which eventually killed my old and weak Cotton.
Cotton is one of my longest surviving, cutest, most tamed hamster that I've had so far. Playing with him gives me joy. Even when I see him play alone by himself I still find joy. It's a pity that hamsters have short lifespan of 1-3years max. Furthermore, I do realized that hamsters also undergo balding when they are old. Their fur loses shine and they are less puffy as they were before. When they age, they lose all the vitality and agility to be as hyperactive as they are young. They also have no mood to accompany you to play anymore. All they do is just sleep the whole day and only wake up to eat.
I love you Cotton!

Back On Blogging
My 1st hectic week of my 'A' Levels examinations aka hell is finally over. For the past week I struggled with the nightmares of having one heavy paper continuously after another each day. I can say that after that whole week, I felt more discouraged than relieved. It suddenly struck me that actually I ain't any prepared for this coming 'A' Levels. When I flip over the question booklet, there are still questions that shocked me and worst of all, I still can't complete the paper in the given time span. What am I gonna do? I don't wish to repeat my J2 years again nor did I wish to go SIM after that. My dreams of getting into Psychology course would be dashed. I really feel that this year, I've been slacking and didn't even put in my 100% effort. Ask my mother and she will list down all the examples of how lazy I had become this year. However, I'd rather blame it on all the distractions around me that kept me away from my studies. I do admit that my mental strength isn't as superb and I can't resist the tempation of the devil. I felt that there are many wrong decisions that I've made this year and indeed it is seriously a rotten year. How I wish I can reverse time and ammend all the mistakes I've made.
Oh well, I think I shouldn't continue anymore, if not the post will just become more emotional and I don't wish that to happen. After my 'A' Levels I want my blog to be a marrier blog. Anyways, I need to go study my Chemistry now. I've only left with afew light papers and I'm officially done with it on 3rd Dec.
