The AIDS Stigma

http://www.buttecounty.net/publichealth/cder/aids_ribbon.png

Disclaimer: Today's post is an discussion topic. It is only from my point of view and no ment offence.

I came across a special four page report about AIDS patients on The Straits Time newspapers under the column of Mind Your Body today. After reading the papers, my mind was flooded with thoughts and questions.

If you had a chance to rid the world of AIDS, would you?

It’s a terribly clichéd question, but I’m sure the answer is yes, save for those who believe that AIDS is God’s scourge against gay men. If we had the power to remove the threat of HIV from our lives, I’m sure most of us would.

Unfortunately, we can’t. HIV is here to stay. While we can’t turn back the clock to stop the person who caught it from the monkey, we can stop HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) from spreading, and we can stop the stigmatization of HIV-positive people.
Team Trevvy, 2008

I had to proclaim that I love to read the articles that is posted on Trevvy. They discussed homosexual issues from their point of view which I think that is what the heterosexual world had missed out on. Who else would know better about that (homosexual) circle other them people inside the circle? To me, I feel that general discussion (made by heterosexuals) about this AIDS and homosexual issues are too peripheral.

I seriously felt that the world (mainly represented by the media) is bias and discriminatory. Just take the example of today's special report on AIDS from press, they actually featured a gay male who had gotten hold of the AIDS disease even though he is in a monogamous relationship with his partner for four and a half years and still going.

Even though, they did not openly wrote about him being gay but there are enough clues to deduce that he is not straight. This again brings up the issue on discrimination of the homosexuals and the sicked. I wondered would the article bring out enough punch if they featured a heterosexual guy instead of the homosexual? From the way I see it, they seems to put emphasis on the idea that AIDS is a 'gay disease' that God had created as a punishment. Ironically, earlier in the report it states that two thirds of the AIDS patients are actually heterosexual.

Even though, continuous efforts were made to lift up the stigma that has been placed heavily on AIDS patients, little progress is seen. People are still having phobias of interacting with those HIV positives. Ignorance may be the main cause of the problem. What happened to those sexual educations lessons that was taught in schools? Is it that too much preaching about abstinence from pre-martial sex and the details about AIDS/HIV were left out or is it that the students do not take those 'enrichment' lessons seriously? Actually, it works both ways. I think that people who had taken Biology should get better insights of the disease, hence I do not expect them to ostracize the sicked.

In conclusion, I want to bring up the point that the idea of AIDS is a 'gay disease' came out because people in the past hates gays and use it to deter them from being together. In fact it originates from some horny human who had an intercourse with the chimpanzees. Finally, I had to put emphasis on the point that HIV could not be spread by saliva but through blood.

Addicted to my GameBoy Advance SP

Recently I am addicted once again to playing my GameBoy Advance SP, maybe is that I grew tired of playing the same game on my PSP over and over again. Well, the game I am addicted to is Pokemon Emerald. I agree that it really seem so childish when I bring it out to play. People might think that I am outdated as now people are playing Nintendo DS or even PSP and me? I'm still holding that GameBoy Advance SP. Haha.. ..but I don't really care. It's nostalgia anyway. I bet someday they (the others) might feel it too.

Well, I think the English version of Emerald is really limited as it doesn't contain any legendary pokemon, such as Deoxys and Jirachi. Hmm.. ..I hope I still can find the Japanese version of it somewhere in the world though. I remembered my Gold version is in Japanese last time and I don't really know how it play it. Come to think of it, I really missed Pokemon Crystal, Gold and Silver version. To me, its the most fun version I've played other than Yellow version. I hope the creators could come out with the revised version of Crystal (something like Fire Red and Leaf Green) so I can play it once again.

Here's some pictures.. ..

For the gender I chose the girl. Well, anyway, the game originally belongs to my youngest sister's, so I continued where she left it. Unfortunately she left it at the first town where she haven't even collected her starter pokemon. haha.. ..

http://www.universo-nintendo.com/files/Imagenes/Pokemon_Emerald.gif

For my starter I chose Torchic instead of Mukip. Haha.. ..cause I think it is cuter even when it evolves, as compared to Mukip. Eh, don't ask me why I never choose Treeko. I only can say that I had never chose any grass pokemons as my starter for the whole pokemon game till now. Maybe I don't really like it? Hmm.. ..

Ralts is a must catch pokemon for me! It's really cute and the only psychic pokemon that I like. Yepp, so no choice!

http://www.pokexperto.net/nds/artwork/280.jpg

I am ice type lover! Hence, I must get an ice-type pokemon. However, my pokemon Emerald is not the real version, hence the time does not moves. Most events can only happen once. That applies to the Shoral Cave too. Mine unfortunately is on high tide, and I can't go deeper into the cave to catch my favourite Snorunt.

Pichu is so cute! However, I would want it with Bolt Tackle. Hence, I've gotta do something first to breed it.

After fishing for two days straight, I finally fished up this stupid ugly little fish called Feebas. Last time I thought it was some kinda useless fish like Magikapp which only knows splash and I killed it. Now then I realized how precious it is as it will evolve to a very beautiful pokemon called.. ..

Milotic!!!

If I were to choose between the two ancient pokemon, I would rather choose Kyogre as it is more beautiful plus I would prefer water type pokemon over fire.

Working

The boredom sets in when the holidays arrived. There is a sudden halt to the heretic JC life that I've been having since JAE. Now, I have left with nothing much to do. I want to take a break from the books but when I do that, I have left with nothing else to do, other than going for tennis training twice a week. It really feels like I am rotting away as time passes.

My sister actually found a job in the factory that is located around Enous area and I did not found any job. The excuse I gave is that the holidays are too short no one would want to employ me who only can work for a month or so. Well, the actual reason is that I'm just too lazy to find work already.

Now? I am working for my parents.

Mom: Since the holidays are too short and no one would want to employ you, then I shall! I don't mind you coming down to my store and help out. Anyway we are short of human resources, I would appreciate if you come down!
IceCleric: Eh..
Mom: You see your sister also go find work and you are still here. Got work then I will give you money to spend, if not.. ..
IceCleric: Ok ok..I understand.

This is roughly what happened. Hence, now almost every day I'll go down to help out from 9am till 2.30pm. However, recently there is another problem, the employee's husband met up with an car accident and died instantly. Hence, she is on a few days leave. There is even a report about the crash on the WanBao (Chinese night newspapers) two days back. Now, I gotta work extra till she came back or other arrangements are made.

?An Outing?

Who?
James, XM, QQ, KK, Gav and Me

Where?
JurongPoint

Time?
10.30am

History?
Actually, planned to go to eat YukiYuki at Marina on Wednesday. However, due to some reasons, it got postponed and changed to this outing.

Events
Just before I left my house, Gav sms-ed me saying he had fallen sick so he won't be joining us. Oh great! Just as I though. Following which, my tuition teacher called to double confirm with me that I've postponed the tuition.
The rest of the people had reached JurongPoint before I did, and luckily I was just late by a little. I forwarded the message that Gav sent to me to tell them that Gav is not coming.
The plan was to go to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to have a dink and sit down to chit chat. However, due to the pricing of the drinks there, they changed the location to McDonald instead.
The horror sets in when James tells us that he had to leave early. Everyone was utterly upset with him, so as a punishment the rest had (erm..) forced him to treat us something from McDonald. Well.. ..all the coins in his wallet actually is just enough to buy each something. Wow, he really collected that much of coins!

After the departed from the group, we were left with nothing much on our mind except to window shop around the mall. The outing ended at around 1pm plus and I departed from the rest as I am walking home istead.

Feelings?
Well, it feel really awkward as I've not meet up with them for quite sometime since the last class outing at Seoul Garden, Marina Square. Yepp, as usual I kept quite as I don't really have much to talk about too. Maybe cause without Gav who is really enthu? Haha.. ..
Hmm.. ..well, I think that everyone did not change much except that James had really became darker. Eh.. ..heard from QQ he actually went to buy those whiting cream to apply. Haha.. .. XD

Speedy Genting Trip

Caution: Long Post Ahead!

Lugging our luggage down our block to our aunt's car at 4pm, we begin our speedy journey to Genting Highlands in Malaysia. Sat comfortably in the little Chevrolet car of my aunt are my mother, my youngest sister and me.

At around 8pm in the night the trip become dangerous as there are little lights and the little car of my aunt is twirling up the slope. At the point where the slope is the steepest, the car seems to have lost its horsepower. It is having difficulties scaling it. Our heart skipped a beat, thinking maybe this is going to be the end as the car might break down. However, luck is on our side the 1000cc (should be) car managed to slowly made its way up. At the same instance all heave a sigh of relieve.

We arrived at around 9pm, nearing 10. Check-Ins are done quickly and we went back to our rooms to put down our luggage, arranging for a meet at the lobby 10minutes later. (Wah Kao eh, so suay lah, tio the room that is at the furthest end of the floor!) After which we went for supper. My mom hands us money for us to play the arcade while the adults left for the Casino. The first day ended at 2am in the mornings.

The second day started at around 7am in the morning, where me who is shivering in cold and suffering a diarrhea woke up first to went to the toilet. Then I can't really sleep back anymore, so I went down to the lobby leaving my youngest sister still sleeping in the room. I went to check out if the Watsons which is located just at the First World Hotel lobby is open yet. Nope. I then went back to the room only to find my youngest sister sitting on the bed. We dailed for the adults room at around 9am. We then headed to their room at Tower 2 an hour later, buying some po chi pills from Watsons along our way.

After buying the tickets, we (my youngest sister and me) then headed towards theme park, only to find that the whole entrance is flooded with Malaysian students. Finally we managed to squeezed past them and enter the theme park. To sum it up, the whole theme park trip wasn't that fun as firstly it was with my youngest sister which I have nothing much to talk to her about, and as mentioned the place is flooded with Malaysian students hence go for every ride takes at least 30 minutes queuing for it. That wasted lots of time.

For lunch/dinner my sister suggested to have Pizza Hut. Well, all I have to say is that their CUSTOMER SERVICE SUX totally. I bet I would want to patronize that place again the next time. After having such a not nice lunch/dinner, we went back to rest and change up for the night activities.

Shopping is the first activity we had for the evening. We walked for an hour plus but brought really nothing much though. After which we headed towards the arcade under Genting hotel. Half way through, my youngest sister actually lost the only shopping bag that contains all the items we have shopped for earlier. I got so mad that my blood pressure rose and I felt giddy walking. She had to went back to purchase all the items that is in that bag as a form of punishment and no clues from me are given. The night activity then ended off with neoprint.

On our way back I received a call from the adults to inform us to buy something to eat as we are heading back to Singapore at around 4am in the morning.

At half past 3am in the morning everyone woke up and prepared to set off. We then checked out at around 4am and headed towards the carpark to get into the car. The whole driving back tirp was really exhausting to my aunt as she is the only one driving. My mom too have to sacrifice her sleep to keep my aunt company so as she won't fall asleep half way through. We then safely reached Singapore on Sunday 10am plus nearing 11 in the morning.

Promoted

I am not surprised to the the word Promoted printed on my results slip this morning. Since, Joel and Valerie got promoted, I should too. I can't really say that I'm proud of myself or anything. In fact I felt ashamed to get promoted with this kind of results. Alphabets that is reflected on the slip are like so fake. This isn't the actual results that I deserved.

Now, I had to work extra hard from this day onwards so as to get into the desired course that I wanted in University next year. Furthermore, I have to prepare myself for the coming supplementary test that is to thrust upon me next year.

As for some of my classmates who are not as lucky, I do not wish to comment about it. I can understand how they exactly felt but what could I do? I really don't know how to console them. Neither do I wish for them to be ended up in this state. I think next year would be a rather boring year without their presence. Everyone commits mistakes and deserves a second chance.
